I Want More NFP Info!

Question

Hi,

My husband & I are very interested in using the methods referred to as “NFP Methods”, but would like to find out more information. Specifically, where the closest classes are. We live between San Jose & San Francisco (East Bay).

We just had a baby boy in July, and I am nursing, but I have had to return to work, so I pump twice a day, and according to the manual I’ve been reading, that does not constitute “ecological breastfeeding”, therefore there is a chance I am ovulating? I look forward to your response.

Thank you.

Answer

It is always possible you could ovulate if the baby is over 8 weeks old, or even if under 8 weeks----- if you are not totally breastfeeding. But that does not pose an obstacle to using NFP, because you will be observing the signs to determine if you are fertile on any given day or not. It is important to have good instruction, however. There are choices of several NFP methodologies in your area, and by consulting the directory on our website you can consult with those teachers nearest you, to determine which NFP method you might prefer to learn. If you have any questions about the different methodologies, or the use of NFP in breastfeeding, you are also welcome to call the CANFP office at 831-443-3746 and I will be happy to discuss it with you.
