Question

Hello, I got off of ortho-tricyclen after 5 months of taking it, on July 20th. After having my regular period from the pills, about a week later I had another period that lasted 4 days which started on August 3, 2008. I had sex like every other day. It is now September 5 and I have had no spotting and no period. Is that normal? When should I expect my next period? I have had sharp pains in my groin area that I have never experienced before. What are the chances of my being pregnant as well? I also took a First Response pregnancy test this morning and it was negative so..

Answer

Dear Trisha,

The return to a "normal" cycle after being on the pill can vary from woman to woman. The time since your last menes has only be a little over one month which might not be that unusual for a woman who is post-pill. The pain could be due to ovulation and a menes could be expected about two weeks later unless a pregnancy occurred. The negative pregnancy test only indicates that you are not pregnant at the time of the test. If your menes doesn't start in the next week, I would repeat the pregnancy test.

I hope this has been helpful.
