Trying to Conceive But Happy to be Patient

Question

I am still breastfeeding my 14-month-old and have had an LH surge now for 4 months (menstruating for 6). My luteal phase is shorter now, about 9/10 days. My question: Is my luteal phase likely to return to it's previous 12 day length in time or do I have to give up breastfeeding? I am trying to conceive but also happy to be patient.

Many thanks.

April

Answer

Dear April,

We congratulate you for continuing to give your toddler the benefits of breastfeeding! Your luteal phase will return to its pre-pregnancy length, and you can conceive while breastfeeding.

Additionally, there is no need to wean during pregnancy; you and your baby can continue this relationship as long as mutually desired.
