Can You Tell Me When I Conceived?

Question

I am estimated to be 15 weeks and two days pregnant. I was wondering if you can tell me when I conceived and if that's the actual day I conceived or if it's just a guess. I really need to know because the doctor at the ER said I was 15 weeks and 2 days pregnant but it would have meant I got pregnant December 2nd. Right? Thats not possible because I had sex on December 4 so is it possible it's just a guess? Please get back to me when you can. It's really important.

Thanks.

Leigh Ann

Answer

Dear Leigh Ann,

The doctor probably went by the first day of your last period. That is normally how they date pregnancies when you first go in for a visit. Actually the best way to determine when conception took place is if you were charting your cycle or ultrasound. Even those methods will give you a range if more then one act of intercourse took place during your fertile time.

Also, your email stated 15 weeks pregnant and that does not work with December for conception. I will assume you meant 5 weeks pregnant if you feel you conceived in December. At this point, the best indicator of how far along you are would be an ultrasound if your doctor thought it was necessary.
