Question
I am 19 1/2 and I have been breastfeeding every since my son was born in October 2005. I have had two 3 day periods and one 1 day period when my son was 3 months, now I haven't had a period in 4 months. Could I be pregnant? I have let my husband put the head of his penis on my vagina and inside without pre-ejaculating or just ejaculating. This happened only 4 or 5 times but every time we use a condom. What should I do? My husband wants me to get my tubes tied, but I don't.

Answer
Dear Jam,
There's always the possibility of getting pregnant, even with a condom. Keep in mind that condoms are not 100% effective at preventing pregnancy much less sexually transmitted diseases. If your plans are to avoid pregnancy, I would recommend learning a method of Natural Family Planning (NFP). NFP can also help a couple appreciate their gift of fertility and also learn to help respect each other which is important in any marriage. A permanent method such as sterilization (getting your tubes tied) is unfortuantely a choice that most women who I have spoken with have regretted. Remember, fertility is a gift that must be treasured, not just by the woman, but also by the husband, not individually, but as a couple.
God Bless.
