Question
I have a 3 month old son, and still trying to figure out how to practice NFP postpartum. I have been doing mucus checks and have very little to no mucus. I noticed that my cervix is high and open, even with no mucus. Does this indicate a time of fertility?
Thank you,
Erica
Answer
Dear Erica,
The timing of return to fertility postpartum is variable, depending on the type of baby feeding: exclusive breastfeeding, formula feeding, or mixed feeding. We would suggest a follow-up with your NFP practitioner at this time to help with your specific situation since you haven't indicated your feeding method and whether or not you have had a period postpartum. Couple to Couple League now offers a postpartum class which we think would be valuable to you if you are using the sympto-thermal method. You can refer to their website www.ccli.org to find a class and teaching couple nearest you.
