Question

I'm 14 and I just started my period last week and it was normal for the first 5 days but now I'm still bleeding spots that are darker than usual. I am sexually active but I'm worried. I just got off the pill not too long ago. Help me please!

Angelina

Answer

Dear Angelina,

If I understand you correctly this was your first period after discontinuing the birth control pill. The brown bleeding might not be a problem, but since you are no longer taking the pill I would recommend that you see your doctor for a check up to make sure.

I would like to give you the same loving advice I would give my own granddaughter. There is no birth control method that is 100% effective. If you are not ready to have a baby, you are not ready to have intercourse. At your young age you are making some very adult decisions. I encourage you to take a serious look at why you are sexually active. Why not enjoy being a teenager without the worry of a pregnancy, STD, or being taken advantage by some guy who is only interested in his own desires. You deserve better!

I wish you the best life has to offer.
