Question

My wife and I are having our first baby. We got our first blood test and it came back that her beta levels were fine but her progesterone was a 12. She is about 7 weeks into the pregnancy and we are just wondering how concerned we need to be about this.

Matt

Answer

Dear Matt,

Your concern is appropriate. Your wife's progesterone level should be around 25 in the baby's 7th week of gestation. Twelve is low. NaProTechnology trained doctors use the guidelines established by Tom Hilgers, MD of www.popepaulvi.com (for your information). A supplement is definitely needed. Discuss this with you doctor as soon as possible.

It would be good for your future family planing to learn a Natural Family Planning method. With you wife's menstrual chart you will have valuable information for her doctor in preparing for your next pregnancy and the daily chart will define the days of fertility and infertility you have as a couple. Look on this web site for links and doctors and practitioners in your area or go to www.omsoul.com for other states and cities.

I wish you well.
