Question
Hi. This is Nikki and I was wondering. I have been on the shot for about 3 and a half years and last August was my last shot. I was supposed to get it in November but I did not and ever since November I have not had my period and I am very scared of what is going to happen. When can my husband and I start having another baby? Please help me. I need it. That's all I need is your advice so please please help me.
Nikki
Answer
Dear Nikki,
Taking an injection of Depo-Provera every three months doesn't mean that you will start to ovulate (produce an egg) as soon as you stop the shot, or even three months later. The shot can suppresses ovulation longer than that. It may take up to one year after your last shot before you start to ovulate and have normal menstrual cycles.
I would suggest that you learn to keep track of your menstrual cycle day by day. By doing that you will know when your body is healthy and ready to conceive a baby. You can find a teacher of Natural Family Planning on our web site if you live in California. If you live outside of California go to www.omsoul.com for a list of teachers.
So Nikki, have patience, keep praying, and eventually God may bless you with another child.
