Question
Hello. I'm 15 years old and I'm thinking about going off birth control. I take LO/ovral. (I think that's how you spell it.) I was just wondering how my periods would be if I stopped taking it?
Megan
Answer
Dear Megan,
I think it is wonderful that you are thinking of stopping the pill. When one stops the pill it is hard to know what will happen. Some women go right into cycles like before they were on the pill. Some women may not get a period for months. You may be irregular in terms of not getting a period every month. Most 15 year old girls have irregular cycles and that could be normal for them.
If you are interested in learning more about your cycle and even when to predict your next period you may want to consult a Natural Family Planning teacher. They can help you learn to chart your cycle and you can actually predict within a few days when your next period will occur. They can also be of great help to you if your cycles are irregular and are showing any hormonal problems. At your age you do want to keep your body as healthy as possible so that you will have the best chances for the future when you marry and have children. Take good care of yourself.
Good Luck,
