Question
Is there any possibility of getting pregnant without a menses? Can ovulation happen without a menses? Please reply.
Soumya
Answer
Dear Soumya,
I think I can answer both your questions with one answer. A young girl can ovulate before she gets her first menses. Since this can happen she may become pregnant before ever having a menses. This is also true for women who are breastfeeding. They may have an ovulation before their menses returns so in turn they may become pregnant before the menses starts up again.
If a woman is charting her cycle, then she will be aware when ovulation is taking place. This is one of the many benefits of learning natural family planning: awareness of your own cycle day by day and what cyclic events are happening.
