Question

Can a man still have seminal fluid after a vasectomy without live sperm cells or does he become totally dry?

Ivette

Answer

Ivette asks if a gentleman will continue to ejaculate fluid following a vasectomy.

Sperm represent less than 1% by volume of the seminal fluid. So, yes, fluid will continue to exit with ejaculation and look virtually the same as before a vasectomy. Approximately 2/3 of the fluid is from the prostate gland, 1/3 from the paired seminal vesicles that empty into the prostate. Prostate surgery, medications that “open up” or shrink the prostate gland, and sometimes benign enlargement of the prostate gland can all change or reduce to zero the volume of ejaculate. But vasectomy does not.
