Question

Has anyone successfully NOT had children from age 30-menopause? I am 30 and just had baby #5...so my husband and I are not NFP all-stars. I really need some support from successful people. So far it appears when NFPers get to this point one of the spouses is sterilized...or they keep having babies...

Karen

Answer

Dear Karen,

Yes, we were very successful using NFP! My husband and I started using NFP when I was 33 years old and we had four children. We used NFP until I was 51 years old and reached menopause. I felt I was able to navigate premenopause because I was using NFP and knew when I was fertile even when my cycle got very irregular. We never worried about an unplanned pregnancy. We were always open to a pregnancy; however we used the method to avoid a pregnancy. Our family never grew past the four children with the exception of married spouses and eight grandchildren. Successful use of NFP depends on accurate teaching, good follow-up and following the instructions which includes strong motivation. I would recommend you look for an experienced instructor with follow-up appointments which will help to assure you understand all instructions and help with your continued confidence.

Please don't give up on NFP. We felt NFP strengthened our marriage and family unit.

If you need help finding an experienced instruction, please check our website.

Best of luck.
