Question

Recently me and my girlfriend were kind of fooling around up in my room..and I fingered her...and after I did this I realized, I forgot I had pre-cum on my fingers....but I remembered that I had wiped this off on my jacket before I did anything with her...and now I'm terrified if she's pregnant or not...but I have heard many things..so my friend came to me and showed me this site, so I decided to ask a professional about this...and I would like for someone to reply back to me as soon as they can cuz I'm only 15 years old and I'm really scared if my girlfriend is pregnant or not..and if you reply as soon as you can it would be greatly appreciated.

Jack

Answer

Dear Jack,

You are playing with fire, on many levels. Yes, it is possible for pregnancy to result if sperm come in contact with the mucus at the opening of the vagina, even if carried there by a hand, if the activity occurred during her fertile phase.

I understand your anxiety, as at 15 I am sure you do not feel prepared to parent a child. There is no 100% foolproof method of preventing pregnancy, so clearly the only way to avoid your present situation of being filled with anxiety over possibly having your world change very drastically with a positive pregnancy test, is to refrain from all behavior that could result in pregnancy.

May I suggest you use this time of waiting and wondering to clarify your thoughts on this matter, and your goals, for yourself, and for your relationship. I then suggest you approach your girlfriend to ask her about her thoughts during this time.

The best investment you can both make in a long term, loving relationship, whether it be with each other, or perhaps with another in the future, is to practice a healthy dating relationship now. The behavior you are describing is just not healthy dating behavior, as it is part of the sexual act, and should be reserved for marriage. If you and your girlfriend decide to invest in your futures, and refrain from sexual activity, you will be free of your present concerns, and open up a whole new dimension to your relationship. It will also be an investment in a successful marriage someday.

If she is pregnant, then I suggest you call the toll free number 1-800-395-HELP to get some advice and guidance on a healthy pregnancy.

If she is not pregnant, I suggest you pause the tape, rewind, and plot a new course, as the one you are on is just not going to lead you to a good place. And as a male, you need to be conscious of the laws that make sexual intercourse with a minor illegal, and also hold you responsible for providing financial support for any child you may father. These practical considerations, along with the relational ones, really are a heavy load for a 15 year old. I urge you to pursue the freedom that comes with choosing not to go down this path, and enjoy affectionate, healthy friendships at this time in your life.
