Did I Ovulate With Temp Shift or Mucus Peak?

Question

When did I ovulate? I usually have regular 28 day cycles. My husband and I have been charting for about a year and a half and I have never had a cycle like my last one. On day 11, like clockwork, I started having the first signs of fertility via my cervical mucus. On day 16, I saw the stretchiest, clearest discharge. Here's where things seem to have gone awry: on day 17, there was no bbt shift. All of my cervical mucus(CM) signs went away--I was tacky white, but there continued to be no bbt shift for days. Then, on day 22, my bbt shifted.

So my questions are: When did I ovulate? Did I ovulate on my peak CM day? Did I ovulate on the day my temperature was first high? Also, why did this happen?

Thank you so much in advance for your help!

God bless,

Answer

Ovulation can occur within three days of the mucus dry-up, which may partially explain a delayed thermal shift. Other possible causes could be temperature disturbances due to slight illness, allergy, travel, unusual activity or cold environment. Was your luteal phase consistent with your previous cycles? If it was shortened, you may have experienced a low progesterone level this cycle. It's not possible to pinpoint the day of ovulation based on this information, but the timing of your next menses may shed some light, in hindsight.
